Laughs are exactly as honorable as tears. Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion, to the futility of thinking and striving anymore. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward - and since I can start thinking and striving again that much sooner.  -Kurt Vonnegut, Palm Sunday

amanda: wouldn't it be cool if they discovered something like stonehenge on antarctica, so we knew that mysteriously hundreds of years ago people had the technology to travel to antarctica?

peter (our housemate): no....i would prefer if they discovered a new flavor of poptart.

i dreamed a highway back to you...

last night i had a terrifically vivid dream about a high school friend of mine, who died in a car accident.  he was wearing an old orange t-shirt that he often wore & was sitting patiently in the back of my old family car.  i told him that i was surprised to see him, because he was dead. he told me that a lot of people think that, but that it is not true.  i woke up feeling sad & confused...he seemed so real.

it was the first time i can remember dreaming of someone who is dead.  have you ever had this experience?

on a brighter note...

housemates + daniel + a  road trip + my hometown +  my parents +thrift stores + yummy buffalo chicken chili + games + "word play" & "stranger than fiction" + a walk on the erie canal + a charming cafe + pizza & wings + seth + brunch +  a beautifully frozen lake + a triumphant victory at st. patrick's day team trivia = one lovely & relaxing long weekend!

p.s. thanks for the comments, i too am simultaneously frightened & drawn by sugarbush squirrel.  i dart my eyes around the room...does anyone see this?  can it be real?  its the same feeling i had this sunday during a particularly unmusical hymn solo.  unfortunately my darting eyes met daniel's darting eyes & we disssolved into hopeless giggles...the inappropriate "we're in church & the pews here face each other & there are only 20 people here" kind
